You bring the Hymnal, I'll bring the History

During the later years of the Moody/Sankey ministry, there was a hymn that became their favorite and was sung in every service. The hymn was "Saved by Grace," written by Fanny Crosby in 1891, at the age of seventy-one. This poem by Fanny was her "heart's song." She was paid her regular two dollars for writing it but it sat for three years without a musical tune. Then one day she quoted the poem to an audience at a Christian Worker's Conference. It was here that Sankey heard the words and eventually gave a copy to George Stebbins, who wrote the music and added the chorus. On August 13, 1908, Ira Sankey, was on his death bed. His final words were his singing the words to this hymn, "Saved By Grace."

Some day the silver cord will break,
And I no more as now shall sing;
But O the joy when I shall wake
Within the palace of the King!
Some day my earthly house will fall
I cannot tell how soon t'will be;
But this I know - my All in All
Has now a place in heav'n for me.
Some day, when fades the golden sun
Beneath the rosy tinted west,
My blessed Lord will say, "Well done!"
And I shall enter into rest.
Someday - till then I'll watch and wait,
My lamp all trimmed and burning bright,
That when my Savior opens the gate,
My soul to Him may take its flight.
And I shall see Him face to face,
And tell the story - Saved by grace;
and I shall see Him face to face,
And tell the story - Saved by grace.
