You bring the Hymnal, I'll bring the History

Using Philippians 4:4 Charles Wesley, in 1744, wrote the hymn “Rejoice, the Lord Is
King.” The central theme of the hymn is to rejoice because of Jesus’ resurrection. Death
could not hold him, and He ascended into heaven. The hymn also points us to the second
coming of Christ. His foes shall fall, and He shall take His servants up. “Rejoice in the
Lord alway; and again I say, Rejoice”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rejoice, the Lord is King! Your Lord and King adore!
Rejoice, give thanks, and sing and triumph evermore:
Refrain:
Lift up your heart, lift up your voice!
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!
Jesus, the Saviour, reigns, the God of truth and love;
When He had purged our stains, He took His seat above:
(refrain)
His Kingdom cannot fail, He rules o’er earth and heaven;
The keys of death and hell are to our Jesus given:
(refrain)
He sits at God’s right hand till all His foes submit,
And bow to His command, and fall beneath His feet:
(refrain)
He all His foes shall quell, shall all our sins destroy:
And every bosom swell with pure seraphic joy:
(refrain)
Rejoice in glorious hope! Our Lord the Judge shall come,
And take His servants up to their eternal home:
(refrain)
